9 – Day Ngorongoro to Lake Natron

Day 1: Arrival Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

You will be met upon your arrival in JRO; and transfer to Hotel in Arusha.

Day 2: Arusha/Tarangire

After breakfast, leave with a picnic lunch and drive to Tarangire National Park; the park is spectacular and it is well known for its large herds of Elephant population. Spend the day exploring the park, later in the late afternoon leave and drive to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Tarangire/Ngorongoro

After breakfast, leave with a picnic lunch and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater exploring the short-grass plains of the largest intact caldera in the world. The crater enjoys its enduring charm stems from the overwhelming physical beauty and the abundance of wildlife permanently resident on the crater floor. This extinct volcano embraces 100sq miles alive with lions, leopards, rhino, elephants, buffalo, and many games, later in the late afternoon leave the crater and drive the to the camp on the crater rim for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Empakai Crater

After breakfast we start trekking through an open grassland area, bushland areas, and forests, gradually gaining height to the rim of Empakai crater. Then we descend into the crater floor covered with dense equatorial forests, grass, and a volcanic lake. Buffaloes, reedbucks, and different species of birds can be seen close to the lake. Dinner and overnight at the camp on the crater rim in Empakai

Day 5: Empakai – Naiyobi Village

Today we descend the crater rim towards the north-western side. In the afternoon we reach the Naiyobi Maasai village. For those who wish, you can enjoy a conversation with the Maasai people and visit their local primary school. Dinner and overnight at the acacia trees forest near the village at the Acacia Campsite.

Day 6: Naiyobi Maasai Village – Lake Natron

Departing in the morning following the dusty paths downhill off the crater highlands to Mouwongoni Maasai village, where we will meet our vehicle that will transfer us to campsite or lodge in Lake Natron for dinner and overnight.

Day 7; Ol’doinyo Lengai summit and back to Lake Natron campsite

Today very early in the morning at the drive to the base of the Ol’doinyo Lengai mountain to start the climb so as to gain as much height as possible in the cool of the morning reach at the summit during sunrise and spend some time there before coming down to the base of the mountain. From there, clients will be transferred by jeep to the camp for shower and rest. Sun hats and a large water intake are essential. Descend by the same route.  Great care should be taken on the way down loose volcanic gravel on the bare rock makes it perilous going in places. Bringing trekking poles is very helpful. Overnight at Lengai Safari lodge.

Day 8; Half day tour at Lake Natron/Engaresero Village

Walking Tour around Lake Natron After a delicious breakfast drive to Lake Natron, with your local guide. Lake Natron is an alkaline lake that serves as the principal breeding site for three-quarters of the world’s population of Lesser Flamingos. Leave for an on-route visit to a Maasai “Boma” village. You will have time to interact with Maasai people and learn their culture and day-to-day activities. After a tour and activities at Lake Natron, we will return to camp for hot lunch and preparation to drive back to Arusha.

Day 9: Arusha/Departure

Today after breakfast we will transfer you to the airport for your flight back home.
